Wider Maboneng Improvement District
The Greater Maboneng Improvement project in Johannesburg is a transformative initiative aimed at revitalising one of the city's most vibrant urban neighbourhoods. Located east of Johannesburg's CBD, Maboneng has long been celebrated for its unique blend of culture, creativity, and community. This improvement project seeks to build on that foundation, addressing challenges related to infrastructure, safety, and sustainability to enhance both the quality of life for residents and the experience for visitors.
The initiative focuses on creating a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive environment. Plans include upgraded public spaces, improved lighting, better waste management, and increased security measures to foster a safe, welcoming atmosphere. The project also aims to stimulate local businesses and support new entrepreneurs, particularly those rooted in the area's cultural and creative industries. By prioritising pedestrian-friendly spaces, the plan hopes to reduce traffic and encourage sustainable transportation, contributing to a more eco-friendly neighbourhood.
