About NID

Heritage Preservation & Vibrant Public Space

The Newtown Improvement District (NID) was formally established in 2000 as a voluntary City Improvement District (CID) and registered as an NPO.

Guided by its Memorandum of Incorporation (MOI), NID manages the historical, theatrical, and commercial center of Johannesburg. Home to iconic cultural institutions like the Market Theatre, Turbine Hall, and Sci-Bono, Newtown stands as a model of urban heritage management.
